What Is IPL/BBL?
IPL stands for "intense pulsed light," a state-of-the-art laser skin treatment performed at Northwestern Specialists in Plastic Surgery for patients who want to reduce the appearance of dark spots and achieve a more radiant complexion. For more deep-set issues beneath the skin's surface, we also offer BroadBand Light® Therapy (BBL). Both treatments are done using our practice's advanced JOULE® laser system, which uses intense bursts of light to break down pigment while boosting your skin's natural collagen production. How Does IPL/BBL Therapy Work?
Photofacial treatments usually take 20 – 30 minutes and can be performed at our convenient Chicago, IL offices. To prepare for the procedure, your technician will wash and dry your skin before placing goggles over your eyes to protect them. The IPL/BBL treatment is administered using a handheld device that will pass over the skin while emitting pulses of light energy. While many patients will feel some discomfort during the IPL photofacial, it's generally tolerable, especially since the treatment takes so little time. When we're finished, we'll talk about what you can expect as your skin heals. There is usually no downtime after IPL or BBL treatments, but you will need to take some special precautions (such as wearing sunscreen) to protect your skin.

I had such a pleasant experience with Dr. Simon and the whole team! He’s very knowledgeable, kind, and meticulous. He educated me on why I should or shouldn’t do certain procedures (example - I don’t love my neck but it’s due to my tongue placement and there’s no surgical procedure that can be done. I did joke that we should just remove my tongue). He was realistic and answered all my questions. I also had to text him a question and he answered while on vacation and was incredibly responsive and reassuring.Everything looks great and I’m so happy I went with Dr. Simon. Highly recommend.
