What Is Liposuction?

How Is Liposuction Performed?
Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient under general anesthesia. To start, your surgeon will make a very small incision near the treatment area. A cannula (a hollow medical tube) will be inserted and used to break up fatty tissue before vacuuming it out. After removing the desired amount of fat, we'll close up the incision and move you to a recovery room for monitoring. Depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the number of areas we're treating, your liposuction procedure could take 1 – 3 hours. What to Expect Following Liposuction
You may need to stay at home for recovery from liposuction surgery for 1 – 3 weeks based on the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed. It is typical to have bruising and swelling for one or two weeks, and you can have the stitches taken out 7 – 10 days after surgery.
