Cellulite is a common cosmetic concern characterized by the appearance of dimpled and lumpy skin, often found on the thighs, buttocks, hips, and abdomen. It occurs when underlying fat deposits push through connective tissue, resulting in a bumpy texture on the surface of the skin. Cellulite affects individuals of all body types and can be influenced by various factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, poor circulation, and lifestyle choices. Despite being harmless and not indicative of any medical condition, cellulite can significantly impact one’s self-confidence and body image. The underlying cause of cellulite are septae, which are fibrous bands that adhere the skin to underlying structures.

What is Avéli?

Avéli is the only minimally invasive procedure that uses a hand held device guided by an expertly trained provider—to manually target and release the septa bands causing cellulite from the inside-out. Avéli does not treat skin laxity, but it can be combined with other skin tightening modalities, such as BodyTite by InMode Aesthetics, to achieve more powerful results.

How does Avéli work?

Septa are a leading cause of cellulite dimples; they are fibrous bands that tether the dermis to the underlying muscle, creating the dimple or depression you see on the surface. To effectively target and release the septa bands causing cellulite dimples, we need to treat from the inside out. The Avéli device allows us to grab the bands under the skin contributing to a cellulite dimple, and cut them, release the dimple for a smoother appearance.

What should I expect the day of my procedure?

The procedure takes about 1 hour to complete. This can be done in our office under local anesthesia. The procedure may take longer depending on how many areas of cellulite are treated. The most uncomfortable portion of the procedure is the local anesthesia. The actual procedure will be painless, however you may feel some pulling or “tugging” sensations when the septae are being released.

The most common side effects reported were mild pain within the first 24 hours and bruising and tenderness to the touch which typically resolved within 30 days. You may return to your normal activities 24-48 hours after the procedure. Any discomfort from the procedure can be treated with over the counter medications, such as Ibuprofen or Tylenol. We recommend that you avoids strenuous activities for the first couple of days. Compression should be worn for 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

The ideal candidate is a patient with a BMI less than 30, mild to moderate laxity in the skin, with dimpling on the thighs and/or buttocks.

How many treatments will I need?

Aveli is designed to be a one-time treatment that offers durable and long-term results.

Once the swelling resolves, most patients will see their results. Swelling is the most prominent for the first week or two. Most patients will start seeing the results 1 month post-op.

Bruising and swelling is common. If there is a cluster of cellulite that is more severe in a localized area, treatment of this can increase risk of seroma formation, aka fluid buildup.

The actual procedure is very comfortable. You will feel a pulling sensation but no pain. The treatment area will be numbed prior to the procedure which is the most uncomfortable part of the procedure.

Soreness is minimal after this procedure and will last up to a week. Bruising can persist for a few weeks depending on the severity. You may apply ice to the treatment area and take over the counter medications for any discomfort.

Aveli is mainly targeted to treat the lateral thigh, posterior thigh, and buttocks area. The "banana roll" is typically avoided during the procedure.
