A female patient underwent a successful transaxillary breast augmentation procedure during 2023, by our surgical team in Chicago, IL. The transaxillary approach for breast augmentation is one of the surgical techniques used to insert breast implants. It involves making an incision in the natural crease of the armpit (axilla) and inserting the implant through this incision. We choose the transaxillary approach based on the patient’s anatomy, cosmetic goals, and concerns about scarring. For this specific patient, she is very athletic and wanted to avoid a scar on the breast and minimal trauma to her pectoralis muscles as well as her breast tissue. She ultimately required two different sized implants to attain our desired symmetric aesthetic. Our practice has a unique expertise as we routinely use this surgical approach for many of our patients leaving them very satisfied with no visible scars on the breast, preservation of breast tissue, as well as a quicker post operative recovery.
