More often than not, people work hard to lose weight through diet and exercise, only to be left with excess sagging skin. These results can be disappointing and can make a major impact on your self-confidence. Fortunately, there are a number of highly-effective treatment options available to tone and tighten those stubborn areas that are left behind after major weight loss. These treatments, known as body contouring, are highly customizable and can be designed to target your specific goals.

What is Body Contouring?

What is Body Contouring?

Body contouring, otherwise known as body lift surgery, is a surgical procedure that is performed to reshape and tone different areas of the body.

Body contouring is not a weight loss surgery. Rather, this procedure is utilized to tone and tighten specific areas where weight loss has left behind excess skin. These areas may include the abdomen, thighs, upper arms, back, chest, and buttocks.

Most people who maintain a stable weight, but have excess skin and fat they would like to remove, are good candidates for a body lift.

Customized Treatment

Body contouring is a highly-customizable procedure that may include a number of different techniques. Here are just a few of the body contouring treatments we utilize to help our patients achieve their goals.

Tummy tuck: Removes excess skin of the abdomen while tightening muscles and addressing unwanted fat
Breast lift: Helps to lift and reshape loose or flattened breasts
Arm lift: Removes excess skin of the upper portion of the arms
Medial thigh lift: Removes excess skin of the inner thigh
Facelift: Tightens the mid-face, jowls, and neck
During your initial consultation, we’ll walk you through the different procedures available to you and help you decide which options will best help you meet your goals.

What to Expect From Body Lift Surgery in Chicago

Before scheduling surgery, you will meet with your doctor for a consultation. During this consultation, your doctor will ask you about your health history and your goals for the procedure.

Because of the nature of body contouring, it’s very important that your weight has stabilized before undergoing surgery. Gaining or losing weight after the surgery can greatly affect the elasticity of your skin.

Your particular body lift procedure will largely depend on what areas you want to target and what procedures you and your doctor decide on. In most cases, surgical body contouring is a sedated procedure, meaning you’ll receive general anesthesia before undergoing surgery.

The length of the surgery will largely depend on which treatments you and your doctor have decided on. After surgery, you will need someone to drive you home and care for you for the first couple of days. Recovery will depend on your individual treatment, but will likely take a few days to a few weeks.

How Long Does Body Contouring Last?

Typically, results from body contouring are very long-lasting. As long as you maintain a stable weight, results typically last 10 years or more. During your follow-up consultation, our doctors can help you create a diet and exercise plan that will help you stay healthy and maintain your results.

Am I a candidate for body contouring?

If you’re bothered by stubborn fat pockets on the body that won’t go away despite healthy habits, body contouring may be the solution for you! Body contouring can mean a variety of procedures including liposuction and can be tailored to meet your individual needs. Liposuction is meant to target and remove unwanted fat. Ideal candidates should be within a reasonable range of their goal weight and have good elasticity to the skin.

We believe in offering services to our patients that we know generate results. NSPS and Northwestern Med Spa offer Surgical Liposuction, In Office Liposuction, and NuEra Skin Tightening for body contour.

We recommend an in-office consultation with your provider to determine what treatment option is best for you. Because every patient is different, we like to create a regimen that is catered to your wants and needs to achieve the most desirable results.

There are many options for skin after massive weight loss. Many times this involves surgery to remove and tighten the skin of the abdomen, breasts, legs, arms, or back. At your consult we can discuss specific scarring associated with each procedure.

Body contouring relates to the body being shaped most often with liposuction. Once the fat is removed, it is gone forever. However, changes in your weight can still fluctuate over time. The body contouring results should remain, but weight changes can affect the shapliness depending on how your body changes.

Here at NSPS, we like to burn fat and build muscle simultaneously with EmSculpt! This form of non-surgical body contouring is FDA-cleared for strengthening, toning and firming of the abdomen, buttocks, thighs and arms. Typical body sculpting attempts to eliminate fat and tighten skin but fails to address muscle mass. EmSculpt goes beyond fat reduction to provide a dual treatment to address muscle tone and fat.
