Northwestern Med Spa has been established to offer clients the state-of-the-art treatments they need to maintain healthy, glowing skin. While medical spa treatments are often known for high-tech treatments like skin-tightening using lasers and other devices, there is something to be said for a good old-fashioned facial. Actually, we have to say that even our facials go above and beyond. Treatments are still relaxing and pampering, but they are also highly focused, utilizing medical-grade ingredients to achieve noticeable improvements.
There are several reasons to make routine facials a part of your ongoing skincare regimen. Here, we discuss what to do and what not to do after a facial.
DO:
- Promote the results of your facial by consuming plenty of water. Hydration supports cellular detox and also skin plumpness.
- Follow your esthetician’s advice. Cellular turnover and buildup resume relatively quickly after an average facial. This means exfoliation will continue to be an important part of your normal routine. However, don’t start exfoliating before your esthetician advises it. The last thing you want is to look red and irritated after investing in professional treatment.
- Incorporate medical-grade products into your daily routine. We don’t just perform facials; we meet with each client to fully analyze their skin so we know how to accomplish the best outcome. This analysis enables us to recommend products that will meet the unique needs of each person’s skin long after their facial.
- Book your next visit! Depending on the strength of your facial, your skin may be ready for a follow-up treatment within a month to three months. Because facials are customizable, we can plan around both your needs and your preferences.
DON’T:
Before a facial, avoid:
- Spray tanning, especially tanning of the face. The alteration of your natural skin tone could inhibit your initial analysis of needs. Also, the ingredients in spray tan solutions often clog pores and increase the risk of breakouts.
- Heavy exfoliation. We’re going to cleanse and exfoliate your skin during your appointment. The use of retinol or manual exfoliants should cease a few days before your professional treatment.
- After a facial, avoid:
- Heavy sweating. Whether that comes from a workout or a sauna session, heating up the body to the point of heavy sweating could lead to unwanted inflammation in the freshly treated skin.
- Sun exposure. UV rays degrade just about everything on your skin, including the collagen and elastin that support firmness and suppleness. After a facial, give your skin time to absorb all the goodness that has been packed into the epidermis.
- A medical-grade facial should get just about every impurity out of your skin. However, if small bumps remain, there is a reason they could not be corrected. Picking will only lead to inflammation and potential scarring. Your esthetician can address lingering imperfections during your next treatment.
