What do breast implants feel like?

Implant position (submuscular, subfascial, dual-plane, subglandular) will have a large impact on feel as well as how much of the woman’s soft tissue is covering the implant. The most common areas for palpability are along the bottom and lateral aspects of the breast augmentation. Silicone implants have a softer feel and may have less rippling, resulting in a more natural feel. Size is also an important determinant, if a small implant is completely covered by a good amount of natural breast it will be less palpable than a large implant directly under the gland of a woman with very little body fat or breast tissue to begin with. There are some women in our practice with tastefully done breast augmentations with well hidden scars who have had implants for twenty years and swear that their husbands don’t know. Having seen and felt such results over the years, I can vouch for the fact that it is possible to have an extremely natural feeling and looking result after breast augmentation. To ensure the best possible results always consult a board certified plastic surgeon in your area who will provide you with customized information and advice to your particular anatomy and desires.
