Hello, everybody. It’s Dr. Vinay from Northwestern Hair. In today’s video, we’re going to talk about how to get the best result possible from your hair transplantation. Now, there are a couple things that are important to look for, and I think they’re actually essential. I was going to walk you through those.
Number one is the team that you work with. It is important to have a team that’s experienced, I would say 10-plus years performing the procedure. Maybe I’d say a couple thousand procedures performed by the person who’s actually done it would put you in a category where you can feel pretty confident in that team member to be able to deliver good results. That person and the technology they use will directly translate into the number of hairs that survive during your procedure. So it’s going to have an impact on the density and ultimate result on your hairs.
Number two is the technology that is used to extract your hairs. In FUE, there’s a couple different types. A very basic FUE has been around for 20 to 25 years, produces great results, 90% satisfaction. And it’s an excellent option just to begin with. However, there are ways to make the results more natural which allows you to collect healthier hairs, leading to more natural results. That’s hair that are silky smooth and straight rather than a little bit dry and frizzy like they can be in FUE.
However, the most important thing to achieve a natural result is appropriate planning. This comes well before your procedure. You want to make sure that when you go through a hair restoration procedure that you have enough hairs for your entire life. Because once you get one hair replacement, you’re kind of locking yourself down into having to maintain that hair over a lifetime. And if you don’t calculate for the first procedure how many you’re going to need for the rest of your life, you can end up with a gap.
So in our office we use something called trichoscopy. We map out the entire area of hair loss. We determine how many hairs it’s going to take to kind of reestablish the area. And we look at how many hairs you have to give. That’s going to tell us how much density we can achieve. And we usually will not exceed that density unless we make some compromises such as hiking the hairline back or forgetting about the crown or developing some priorities.
So those are three things you want to look for, the person performing your procedure, their experience, the technology’s being used to get the best hair as possible, and then the appropriate planning to make sure you look natural forever.
