Thinking about Botox but have some unanswered questions? There’s a point in many of our lives when we ask ourselves, “Do I need Botox?”, “Is now the right time?”, “What does it actually do?” Well, we’re here to help answer some questions you may have! Don’t worry, if after reading this post you have more questions, come on in for a personalized consultation. During your appointment, one of our talented injectors will walk you through all you need to know before your first injection.
What is Botox?
Botox is a neurotoxin that temporarily weakens muscle movement. Used to prevent and soften unwanted lines on the face. Most people start seeing results in 24-48 hours post injection; however, expect full results in 2 weeks.
Why do people get Botox?
There are many reasons why we age and start to develop lines, wrinkles, and folds on our face. Botox targets one of those reasons, repetitive muscle movement. When we continue to contract facial muscles, lines become deeper and more apparent. When Botox is injected into specific facial muscles, lines won’t form and previous lines will likely soften and improve.
When should I start getting Botox?
Everyone is different and has unique needs. I inform my clients that if you start noticing lines on your face and they bother you, you’re ready for Botox. I recommend coming in for a consultation so we can develop a plan specifically for you. Most of my clients start Botox in their late 20s, early 30s, with prevention being their goal.
How many units will I need?
This all depends on what muscles we’re treating. Some muscles are stronger than others and require more units. While other areas require less. It’s important to remember, the number of units does not reflect the “amount of lines” on your face. This is a big misconception. The number of units depends on your unique muscle strength.
How long does Botox last?
Botox will last an estimated 3-4 months. However, everyone is different, for some it can last longer and some less.
Once I start Botox do I have to keep doing it?
Yes and no. If you like your results then yes, you’ll have to come back once the treatment wears off. I find that clients who get Botox for preventive reasons will come 2 to 3 times a year. Clients that are trying to restore their skin and started later in life need to come every 3 months paired with other skin treatments.
Do I only need Botox to prevent aging?
No, and this is an important one. Botox is only targeting one reason why we age. I strongly recommend all my clients start a specific skin care program tailored to their goals. This can include a combination of skin care products, micro needling, facials, chemical peels, Platelet Factor Therapy (PFT), BBL, skin resurfacing, lasers, and more.
Post care after Botox?
Stay upright for 3-4 hours, no pressure on the areas injected for 3-4 hours, and no exercise for 24 hours.
Bruising is always a possibility. Swelling at the injection site for 20 minutes (they look like little mosquito bites). Downtime is short and many clients come in before work or even during their lunch breaks.
Other Botox uses?
Facial slimming, TMJ and grinding relief, excessive sweating, vertical neck bands, gummy smile, lip flip. MicroBotox: injecting Botox superficially into the skin to help with texture and fine lines. Great for under eyes!
Will you love it?
YES. And know your goals are our goals.
