FemTouch is a method of treating conditions related to a patient’s vaginal health. It uses a CO2 fractional laser to remodel the mucous epithelium layer of the vagina, addressing the effects of aging and childbirth on the vagina. This laser treatment is a convenient and hassle-free procedure with long-lasting benefits.
The process of FemTouch is considered to be a more effective alternative to hormonal therapy. The procedure is also quite safe and has the FDA’s approval. This treatment can be carried out at the doctor’s office and does not require any special aftercare.
The Treatment Process
During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine the condition and health of your vagina in order to ensure that you are a good candidate for FemTouch. If so, you will be walked through the procedure.
No anesthesia is required for the procedure. It does not take much time at all and only requires a couple of minutes. It involves a sterilized applicator used along the walls of the vagina. The applicator will be moved in the outward direction. The laser is applied in a circular motion and covers the entire vaginal area.
The laser energy will cause a gentle and very controlled clotting of the blood (coagulation) and tissue removal (ablation) of the vaginal wall. Immediately after the treatment, you will feel a warm sensation in the treated area. Your doctor will give you a hydrating gel to reduce this sensation, and it should go away after a couple of hours.
What It Treats
FemTouch can treat a number of vaginal conditions and irritation. It is especially aimed at treating the various symptoms suffered by post-menopausal women. These include the following:
•Vaginal atrophy (swelling or inflammation of the vagina or the urinary tract)
•Extremely dry vagina
•Itchy vagina
•Pain during sexual intercourse
•Vaginal laxity
•Urinary incontinence (accidental or unintentional loss of urine)
•Vaginal infections
•Tissue rupture of the vagina
•Inelasticity of the vagina
The most common symptom reported by post-menopausal women is vaginal atrophy. A report published by the American Association of Family Physicians asserts that around 80% of post-menopausal women suffer from vaginal atrophy. After menopause, the level of estrogen produced by the body goes down considerably. As a result, the walls of the vagina become thin and lose elasticity, so the vagina becomes prone to tearing and infections.
Benefits can be seen after a single treatment, and only two to four treatments of FemTouch are all it takes to achieve optimal results. Around 91% of the women treated have reported improvements in their vaginal health after three sessions. The fractional CO2 laser improves the blood supply to the vagina and helps in the increased formation of new mucosal tissue. Thicker, stronger, and more elastic tissues are formed.
FemTouch is advisable for women who cannot tolerate hormonal treatment, a process which pales in comparison to FemTouch. Hormonal replacement therapy is not a comfortable procedure; it can cause a lot of health issues and problems for most women, and it takes a long time to be complete and effective.
