What is Emsculpt?
Emsculpt is a non-surgical, non-invasive body contouring treatment that is the first of its kind. Its technology has been developed to permeate the upper layers of skin and fat to target the deep muscle tissue that gives certain areas their shape. Until this device, no other had worked the muscles; previous devices only stimulated the reduction of excess fat. With Emsculpt, we see both.
The Emsculpt device works with high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM). This energy works on a deep level, causing supramaximal muscle contractions. These aren’t just any contractions, like you might achieve by doing squats or crunches, an Emsculpt treatment emits pulses of energy that cause muscles to contract strongly, deeply, and repetitively. Studies indicate that muscles contract approximately 20,000 times during an average 30-minute treatment session.
This must hurt, right? No. This is one of the benefits of Emsculpt. During treatment, applicators are placed over the skin of the abdomen or buttocks. When energy gets emitted through the applicators, a patient may feel the stimulation of energy as an odd sensation versus individual contractions. Many patients laugh at first and state that the sensation is somewhat ticklish. After treatment, patients can expect to feel sore, just as they would after a good workout at the gym.
